Re: The Avengers
It's by no means perfect, so don't expect a life changing experience or anything. For me personally though, it's the closest to a perfct comic book/superhero movie you can get - without going the Nolan Batman route. It's fun fun fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. Which is exactly what I want from something so ridiculous. Some lines verge on uber-cheese, but it's stuff I've read in a thousand comic books, so it works.

Again, for me personally, I'd pay to see it again just for one scene. It's made me life to see Hulk done so well. The performance of Banner helps, he's so calm and timid and rational. Hulk is pure rage. Just so much fun to watch. Iron Man is better than in any of his movies. Cap is fucking fantastic, he proves his leadership qualities. Thor rocks. Black Widow is a lot more fleshed out than I thought she'd be, there's real depth there. I'm torn with Hawkeye, mostly because of what goes down early on. I think they made an error doing what they did, especially so early.

Theres something for fans of every character. But this ensemble film is better than any of of the individual ones. Kind of like The Avengers team, which is the point of the whole movie really. Selflessness, cooperation, heart. You know the drill.

Also, Agent Coulson (sp?) is awesome.

Re: The Avengers
I'm gonna go in this like I did Iron Man 2, excited but without any kind of expectation.

I heard he was a scene stealer and you have confirmed it.

Suits need to tie down Whedon for the Avengers trilogy, pronto.

Re: The Avengers
Nick Furious...

Quote:Don't F*** with Samuel L. Jackson
The Avengers star lays down the fury on Twitter.

Most of the reviews for Joss Whedon's The Avengers have been very positive thus far, which is why Nick Fury's Samuel L. Jackson now has a bone to pick with a negative write-up from The New York Times.

The Avengers star took to the Twitterverse yesterday for support. Tweeted Jackson, \"
#Avengers
fans, NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job! Let's help him find one! One he can ACTUALLY do!\" In his review, NYT's AO Scott wrote that the Marvel movie was \"hardly worth raging about,\" describing Jackson's performance as \"more master of ceremonies than mission commander.\"

Jackson received a lot of encouragement from his 825,000+ followers, but a few noted that the actor's words sounded a little harsh: \"The critic has a right to his opinion,\" tweeted @kramercapriati. \"Just because the movie has made a ton of money does not mean it is a good movie.\" Responded Jackson, \"Actually, sometimes IT DOES.\"

A similar tweet came from @TheFilmsNest which read, \"Disappointed to hear @SamuelLJackson respond irrationally to negative review of #Avengers. People aren't entitled to their own opinion?\" To which Jackson replied, \"That is My Opinion! & what's irrational about it? They aren't going to fire his jaundiced ass & You & I Know It!\"

As of today, the final word went to Scott himself, who tweeted, \"@SamuelLJackson @TheFilmNest Jaundiced?\"

Re: The Avengers
Marvel Movie universe timeline
[Image: marvel-timeline-full.jpg]

when I saw this again last week the place was fucking packed out. I couldn't believe it, especially as its been out - officially - since April 25 over here.

I loved it even more the second time. A few little things I picked up on that - during the madness of my advanced screening - I didn't previously.

I like Banner and Stark talking science during the middle act. Stark shows humility and is actually kind of in awe of Banner. I like how Stark believes in Banner, resulting in Hulk having a soft spot for him. The belief is rewarded at the end when Hulk saves him from the fall.

Can't believe I never clicked about this before; When Hulk sucker punches Thor during the last 40 minutes, I just assumed it was something funny to break the tension...and Hulk kind of saying "you're good, but you're not THAT good". But, of course, it was Hulk getting some payback for their previous encounter on the ship.

I just read a few reviews, I'd only read one or two previously and wanted to read more opinions on it. This guy must be my doppelganger:
Quote:While I think there is definitely a way to make a better solo Hulk film than the two we’ve already received, Hulk is a fundamentally tricky character. He is basically a werewolf. Our hero is Bruce Banner, who doesn’t want to turn into the Hulk. But we want him to turn into the Hulk, and every second that he isn’t turning into the Hulk has the potential to be boring and a little frustrating. Another problem is that what makes Hulk such an appealing concept in the Marvel Universe (especially to little boys) is that Hulk is an unstoppable force once unleashed. No one is stronger than Hulk. But in a Hulk movie he needs a villain with the potential to destroy him, and that takes away some of the inherent fun. In The Avengers all these problems are made moot.

With Hulk pushed into a supporting role we are given the opportunity to actually enjoy the character of Bruce Banner, because our battle-lust is satiated by watching the rest of the guys punch each other. This in fact heightens Banner, as all our other characters are desperately tip-toeing around him, trying to make sure he stays small and non-green. When Hulk finally gets unleashed, it now feels like an epiphany, without any resentment that we were kept waiting.

Whedon clearly loves the Hulk as much as I do. I don’t want to spoil any specific gags, but Hulk steals the whole goddamn movie. He gets three of the five biggest laughs in the film, and the film’s single most satisfying moment (I’ll just say it involves a very shocked looking Loki).

My adult-ness was powerless to Hulk in The Avengers. When he was on screen my decades stripped away and I was left a 10-year-old boy, drooling with pure, guiltless, innocent joy. It was almost a religious experience. When Cap takes charge of the Avengers during the final battle, barking orders to our other heroes, then turns to a seething Hulk and says, “Hulk… smash” I literally teared up — from happiness! On my deathbed I very well may look back on my life’s brightest moments and have to decide if the birth of my first child should be above or below watching Hulk go completely apeshit in The Avengers.

And I can’t leave out praise for Mark Ruffalo either. Eric Bana was a terrible choice for Banner. Too big, too handsome, and totally unbelievable as a rage-tormented genius. Edward Norton was a step in the right direction, but though many Hulk fans dug Norton as Banner, I did not. Ruffalo is perfect, especially for Whedon’s take on Banner, weary but with a sense of humor about it all. Ruffalo lacks the smugness that Norton brought to the role, and his look offsets him from the tall and buff actors surrounding him. After The Incredible Hulk I thought it would probably be best to retire the franchise and just keep Hulk for The Avengers. Now I’m not so sure. I think I’d like a Ruffalo solo film.

Re: The Avengers
Quote:Joss Whedon’s Three-Hour THE AVENGERS: DIRECTOR’S CUT Coming To Cinemas In August??

Could the nation’s cinemas be getting a 35-minute-longer “director’s cut” of Joss Whedon’s “Marvel’s The Avengers” this August?

Such a cut is already rumored for a forthcoming Blu-ray release.

Both ComicBook.com and SuperHeroAuthority have a source who says Disney could make it happen ahead of the movie’s expected Blu-ray release this fall.

A three-hour version of the superhero epic might  find its way to the big screen in an effort to make “Avengers” the all-time domestic box office champ.

All-time domestic grosses as of June 11 (in millions):
$760.5 Avatar
$658.6 Titanic
$573.7 The Avengers
$533.3 The Dark Knight
$474.5 The Phantom Menace

I find this a smashing idea. It would also likely help promote the Blu-ray.

RE: The Avengers
Some shit was wooden and a little of a drag during the 'assembling', but mostly watchable.
If we lucky the 35 mins extra cut footage is not all draggy shit.

Tony Stark was on a constant wise-crack roll, every Iron-Man scene was bless.

Yep, he's a proper funny bastard in the cartoon.

Enjoyed the way Whedon took the viewer around the battle in NY, as if thrusting around in the Iron-Man suit.
Also appreciated the way he cut precisely from one Avenger to the next during the carnage.
Flipping a camera shot in a blown up spinning taxi, nice touch.

The way and amount of times Loki gets 'sonned' in the film is hilarious.
Sonnings from Black-Widow, Coulson, Tony, Hawk-Eye and slammed around like Onyx by The Hulk.

Thanos, uh-oh.
