Cool C To Be Executed Tomorrow

Cool C
Philly hip-hop legend Cool C probably best known for his beef with the Juice Crew or being a partner in crime with rap brethren Steady B is being sentenced to death tomorrow. If you don’t know the story Steady B and Cool C robbed a bank in 96 which went way wrong. Steady B was the getaway driver and they did get away but not before a silent alarm was tripped and the police showed up. Cool C in a not so cool move shot the officer that responded a female officer mind you and killed her. Steady B is serving a life sentence for the crime, Cool C being the trigger man was sentenced to death… 19 years later Cool C’s time has come and he must pay for the crime he committed. Cool C and Steady B’s legacy to Philly hiphop is undeniable but sadly their actions has tarnished the great music they made.

R.I.P. Kevlaar 7

In some sad news it seems that Kevlaar 7 has passed away. Probably best known for being a Wu-Tang affiliate MC/Producer with his Brother Bronze Nazareth in the group The Wisemen. I guess Kevlaar had a rare blood disorder of some sort and died from complications from that. It’s a damn shame when talented folks go too soon. Our condolences to Kevlaar and his fam, friends and fans.

R.I.P. Lau Kar-leung

Lau Kar-lueng was the best, an amazing martial artist, director, choreographer and actor. If you don’t know of him he directed the classic The 36th Chamber of Shaolin with Gordon Liu, He also directed Drunken Master II. Not only was he an awesome director but he also created the unforgettable sword to one of my favorite movies “The One Armed Swordsman” which he also choreographed, along with another one of my favorites “Jade Bow” and “Master of The Flying Guillotine”.

Kung Fu films wont be the same.

R.I.P. Fung Wah Bus

fungwah

I learned the other day that the incredible Fung Wah bus company was shut down by the FEDS the other day for being the sketchiest busing business in the modern part of the world. Their business tactics are very crude and they’ve been involved in multiple deaths over the years. The FEDS asked for their safety records and FUNG WAH apparently refused. I used to ride this bus back in the day and it was the cheapest way to back and fourth from Boston to NY and for a measly 20 bucks round trips you couldn’t lose, unless of course you didn’t make the whole trip which was always a possibility. But I’m sad to see it go and I’ll miss the days of shoving people to get aboard the FUNG WAH before all the seats were taken.

from boston.com

Federal authorities have revoked the operating authority of Fung Wah, effectively shutting down the discount bus line after the company blocked access to its safety records.

The Boston-based carrier, which pioneered low fares to New York, was forced to stop running out of South Station Tuesday night after state inspections revealed substantial cracks in the frames of many of its vehicles. The federal order prevents Fung Wah from moving to another location and leasing buses from another company.

Fung Wah stopped cooperating with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Friday, federal officials said, and the agency immediately halted the company’s operations. It is the first time the Motor Carrier Safety Administration has exercised this authority, provided by a new law that allows the agency to revoke the operating authority of bus companies that refuses to release safety records.

“We will not hesitate to immediately shut down a bus or truck company that ignores safety regulations and puts innocent lives at risk,” agency administrator Anne Ferro said in a statement. “We will employ every tool we have to take unsafe commercial drivers, vehicles and entire companies off the road anywhere in the county at any time.”

Fung Wah declined to comment.

The state Department of Public Utilities conducted several inspections of Fung Wah buses in February, finding problems including cracks in the drive axle and engine cradle in eight of the nine buses it inspected. Last week, the state asked Fung Wah to take all its buses built before 2005 off the road — 21 out of its total fleet of 28 — and asked federal authorities to shut down the bus line.

On Tuesday, the Motor Carrier Safety Administration ordered Fung Wah to stop operating its entire fleet until the buses could be inspected and repaired. The bus company continued to operate using charter buses until the managers at South Station Bus Terminal ordered Fung Wah to halt all operations later that day.

If the bus line opens up its safety records, submits to a full compliance review, and presents a corrective action plan, it could seek reinstatement, federal authorities said.

The DPU supports the shut down Fung Wah, said spokeswoman Mary-Leah Assad.

“The department will continue conducting thorough inspections of all bus lines to ensure that public safety is protected, and continue to cooperate with the federal investigation into Fung Wah,” she said in a statement.

Fung Wah has a history of crashes and other safety violations. In the past two years, it has been cited for 159 maintenance violations, including 23 instances of cracked, loose, or broken frames, according to federal regulators. Its drivers are ranked in the bottom 3 percent of drivers nationwide based on experience and training, and its unsafe driving rating is below the industry standard.

Drivers have racked up a dozen speeding violations in the past two years and been cited six times for failure to speak English or operating without a commercial driver’s license, according to federal regulators.

R.I.P. Capital Steez

csrip
I read early this morning that Capital Steez of Pro Era (Joey BadA$$’s crew) took his life early today. He sent out a cryptic tweet a minute before midnight that read “The End” shortly afterward news was floating around that Steez took his own life.
cs
It seems that not a year goes by where someone in the hip-hop community cant take the pains of this Earth and instead of facing those hardships head on they do the selfish act of taking their own life. I don’t know what demons Capital Steez was dealing with but it cant match the pain his family, friends, and the hiphop world will be feeling every Christmas knowing that he’s gone. CS was only 19 years old, his crew released their first mixtape last week that had the internet praising their work, one can only hope this doesn’t destroy the crew and that it brings them closer together and pushes them to make better music. R.I.P. Google Listen

Every Monday night TheCrypt holds it podcast which you can listen to live, but if youre one of those peoples that cant be around late nights on Monday then chances are you download the podcast and listen on your computer/tablet/mobile device etc. There are a number of apps that can do this, such as iTunes for iDevices, Mediamonkey for PC, and Google Listen for Android. Sadly today marks the discontinuation of Google Listen. Here’s a the official word from the G.

We launched Google Listen through Google Labs in August 2009, to give people a way to discover and listen to podcasts. However, with Google Play, people now have access to a wider variety of podcast apps, so we’ve discontinued Listen. People who have already installed the app can still use it, but after November 1, podcast search won’t function. You can access your podcast subscriptions in Google Reader in the “Listen Subscriptions” folder and download them from the Import/Export tab.

Although Google Listen is gone if you’re still a subscriber to our podcast via GL then we’ll still continue to drop on your mobile device weekly. For noobs picking up an Android phone or ones that weren’t aware of Google Listen or listening to podcasts via your phone, here are some alternatives….

BeyondPod (free/$6.99): Ive used this one before it does the trick but isnt the easiest to use.
Podder (free): Just downloaded this, I haven’t used it yet but reviews seem to be great and more favorable then BP.
Pocketcasts ($3): Can’t vouche personally but check it out.
Podkicker (free): Has a great search function, you might be able to find the HHH podcast on there.
DoggCatcher ($5): Supposedly the best podcast app for android.
DoubleTwist (free): Supposedly can do everything iTunes can do…
Stitcher (free): Supposedly really great app which can access lots of great podcasts.

There’s some suggestions for you’s some free and some paid (ballers). Any choice I’m sure will be a good one. Feel free to comment if you need any help or suggestions.
